Food Composting & Diversion Services
Food waste should be kept OUT of municipal solid waste (MSW) whenever possible.
They can either be composted (in the luxury of your own yard), or deposited at a facility such as the examples below. Check out these resources to see if they offer a solution for you! Additionally, you may want to check with your local transfer station, local farms, and garden centers to see what options they offer as well.

The purpose of this project is to reduce solid waste, avoid water pollution, and increase soil health by providing technical support and training for community-scale food scrap composting and manure management on farms in rural and small communities in Vermont and New Hampshire. Funded by a USDA Rural Utility Services Solid Waste Management Grant Program.

Work Song Farm
Service Area: Hopkinton, NH residents only
Operated by Dan and Abby Kilrain, is a small-scale, certified organic farm that produces diverse vegetables, herbs and flowers on three acres in Hopkinton, New Hampshire. They aim to grow healthy, delicious food for their local community and to strive for sustainability in every way. In support of their local community, excess produce is donated to local food pantries and soup kitchens. On-site food scrap composting is done through a bucket system, where participants can pick up empty buckets at the farm and return full buckets. Food scraps only, no paper products or other compostable single-use items accepted.

Agri-Cycle
Service Area: Maine to Maryland
Agri-Cycle operates a fleet of trucks dedicated to both solid and liquid food waste collection. They accept all types of food waste including produce, meat, seafood, and dairy, as well as brewery and other industrial food waste. Our fleet is also capable of collecting palletized packaged food waste, either as part of our scheduled routes, an emergency or an on-call basis. All you have to do is put your food waste in our totes and they will take it from there. If your organization needs to dispose of packaged food, they can take that material as well.

Black Earth Compost

Black Earth Compost was founded in 2011 and currently has over 30 trucks to serve RI, MA, and is now expanding into NH. They are a vertically integrated company that does both the collection and processing of food waste from over 35,000 residents and commercial businesses totaling over 350 tons per week. They then sell finished bag and bulk compost. Black Earth Compost offers residential, commercial, office, and event services.

Mr. Fox

Mr. Fox provides residential and commercial composting services to the New England Seacoast area. Residential services include delivering supplies needed to compost to your residence and pick up on a bi-weekly or monthly basis. Mr. Fox will work with businesses to to customize a compost program based on business needs. They will also provide compost services for your next event.
