In 2023, the Northeast Resource Recovery Association (NRRA) engaged local solid waste management stakeholders, including Transfer Station operators and town leaders, to better understand the construction and demolition debris (C&D) diversion and reuse landscape in Coös County, New Hampshire.
Ongoing resident education is an important part of any municipal recycling program.
Recycling pamphlets that can be either handed out to patrons at your transfer station or recycling center or mailed to community residents are an effective tool for resident education. They can help educate new or short-term residents on the community's recycling program and act as a good reminder for long-term
Hundreds of thousands of lead-acid batteries are discarded each year. A typical lead-acid battery used in a car or truck contains sulfuric acid and 18 to 20 pounds of lead. Lead, a toxic heavy metal, can pose serious health issues and adversely affect the environment if disposed of improperly by contaminating ground water and surface water.
NRRA managed a boat wrap recycling program from 2006 to 2018. In that time, wrap from over 25,000 boats was shipped to sites in NH or MA for processing and exported for recycling. Due to the high costs of transportation and declining overseas market, this program was no longer viable.
In the Spring and Fall of each year, NRRA gets many inquiries from residents as to what to do with their boat wrap.
