This position is with the Sites Management Section (SMS) of the Waste Management and Prevention Division, Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation.  The SMS is a high functioning technical program focused on protection of human health and the environment through the cleanup and regulation of releases of hazardous materials to the environment (oil, groundwater, surface water, indoor air, sediments). The SMS regulates and provides technical state oversight to the investigation of releases on all types of hazardous waste sites ranging from gas stations to Superfund Sites.

This is an entry level project manager position with the SMS, and will be focused primarily on brownfield redevelopment projects.  A successful candidate will have strong time management, organization, and collaboration skills, be self-motivated and able to meet deadlines, and able to conduct periodic site visits.  Additionally, an ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in state and federal laws, rules, and policies applicable to hazardous waste sites.  They should also be knowledgeable in hydrogeology and geology, as well as contaminant properties and behavior in environmental media.  Position responsibilities include reviewing, approving, and commenting on technical documents related to releases of hazardous materials to the environment, as well as coordinating with stakeholders (including developers, Regional Planning Commissions, US EPA, environmental consultants, responsible parties, and other brownfield partners).  A successful incumbent will be expected to manage all aspects of a mixed caseload of brownfield redevelopment projects.
