NRRA Summer Series Webinar: Needles, Pharmaceuticals, Vaping and More

Friday, August 14, 2020
9:00 am to 10:00 am EDT

Needles, Pharmaceuticals, Vaping and More

Registration

Needlestick injuries expose us to bloodborne pathogens, including HIV, Hepatitis B and C, and other viruses. Traces of antibiotics found in river and lake water samples are shifting the delicate balance of aquatic ecosystems. Nicotine (among other toxic substances) in e-cigarettes, vape pens, and cartridges are considered hazardous waste. Vape batteries can start landfill and transfer station fires. What about other items such as inhaler cartridges, epi-pens, needle storage devices?

We care about protecting sanitation workers and the general public from deadly injuries. Join NRRA's Education Assistant, Ben Perham, and Grants Manager/Senior Educator, Cindy Sterling, as they share the results of previous lively medical waste disposal roundtable discussions, efforts and research. This is the culminating presentation about what is happening in Mass., N.H., and V.T.

This webinar is available for both NRRA members and nonmembers. The following audiences are encouraged to participate: municipal recycling and transfer station staff, solid waste operators, public works staff, state and local government officials and staff, educators and community members. New Hampshire solid waste operators will receive one hour of continuing education credit for participating.
