Workshop A - Landfill 101: An Introduction to Burying Trash

This session will show attendees some of the techniques used at landfills to manage waste, deal with birds, address windblown litter, put out fires, reduce odors and work with customers. Today's landfill is not the same one you visited with your grandfather back in the day.

Workshop B - Solar Panel Recycling and a Circular Economy

This session will focus on the world of universal waste and electronics recycling and how solutions are being developed to meet society’s emerging recycling needs as millions of electronics reach their end-of-life. Solar panels have been around since the 1970s, and we will show three exemplars of solar panel recycling.

Workshop A - Affecting Recycling and Reuse Change in Your Town

The Ten Towns, Ten Actions Toolkit is a menu of concrete actions, ready-made templates, and technical support from ten volunteers in New Hampshire who have been successful in effecting change in their communities and are helping others rethink plastic. Learn how the Toolkit has inspired community leaders, catalysts, champions, and others in accomplishing successful actions toward plastic waste reduction. During this hands-on session we will collectively map out ways to prevent waste and support reuse, sharing and repair initiatives in our local communities.

Workshop B - Challenges and Successes of Converting to Source Separation From Single Stream Recycling

This session will cover two towns as exemplars of converting from single stream to source-separated recycling. First, we will explain what led to why Gilford, NH switched from single-stream, the process of getting a new facility approved, opening the new facility, challenges, successes and future ideas. Then we will discuss the successes and challenges of Rollinsford, NH's conversion back to source-separated recycling.

Hear how the food scrap composting facility at the Windham Solid Waste Management District (WSWMD) has grown over its 10 years of operation, and the challenge WSWMD faces to obtain funding to meet Vermont permit requirements for a larger capacity facility. Also get the latest update to New Hampshire’s composting facility rules, which were developed to provide greater clarity and allow all composting facilities to manage meat & dairy food scraps.
